suturing jmos

Haemostasis

  • When a flap has ben used to gain access, suturing it back into position helps stop bleeding

Warning

  • when the underlying tissue is bleeding significantly it shouldn’t be sutured
    • It can cause hematoma
  • overlying tissue shouldn’t be sutured to gain hemostasis of a bleeding tooth socket
    • instead direct pressure should be applied

A figure 8 suture can help retrain the clot and procoagulant materials in the socket but it plays a minor role
