OPG Case 2

Patient Presentation and Demographics

  • ==Age: The patient is a child, specifically below six years old.==
  • ==Clinical Observations:==
    • Primary teeth are present.
    • Permanent tooth buds are present.
    • Tooth 51 (primary maxillary right central incisor) was lost early.
    • Tooth 61 (primary maxillary left central incisor) is "vaguely there" but appears to have been lost early as well.
  • ==Imaging Notes: There are many artifacts present; it is noted that it is difficult to obtain a high-quality OPG for a child.==

Analysis and Differential Diagnosis

  • ==Supernumerary Teeth:==
    • ==There are two mesiodens present.==
    • ==Characteristics: They are conical in shape.==
    • ==Eruption Pattern: These teeth are outside of the normal eruption pattern.==
    • ==Classification: They are identified as permanent supernumerary teeth.==
  • ==Root Structure:==
    • The roots of these teeth have not fully formed.
  • ==Differential Considerations:==
    • ==Primary Delayed Eruption: If this were a case of primary delayed eruption of teeth 51 and 61, you would expect to see advanced formation of the root structure. Because the roots are not fully formed, this supports the diagnosis of supernumerary teeth rather than delayed eruption.==
