Benign Salivary Gland Diseases
Characteristics and Composition3
- Classification: Most salivary gland tumors look similar clinically. Therefore, they are classified by their microscopic appearance rather than their clinical appearance.- Composed of a mixture of cell types (epithelial and connective tissue), which is why it is also known as a *mixed tumor
- The name "pleomorphic" refers to these multiple forms or shapes.*.
- This is the most common benign salivary gland tumor.
- Presents as a firm, rubbery swelling that can range in size from small to very large.

Warthins Tumor

- Oncocyte Definition: An epithelial cell containing an excessive number of mitochondria.
- Microscopically, these appear as large, pink-staining (eosinophilic) cells.

Clinical Presentation
