A method to restore the buccal/ disto-buccal / distal of molars where access is challenging.
Steps
- Place a tofflemire band onto the prepared tooth and mark the location of middle or the more anterior part of the cavity preparation with a small round diamond bur

- Remove the matrix and drill a hole the size of the tip of the GIC capsule. Bend the tip of the capsule to about 90 degrees with your finger (wider part of the tip) and tweezers (narrower part of the tip)

-
If the cavity is on the distal only you may need to bend the tip more than 90 degrees. Make sure the tip is not folded to avoid obstruction of the tip
-
After Conditioning of the preparation, drying, and placement of a cheek guard, secure the tofflemire band with light to moderate
-
Inject the GIC into the cavity preparation. Some excess should be seen coming through the occlusal portion. Then tighten toffelemire retainer firmly to improve marginal adaptation of the GIC. Excess will be seen coming out of the little hole in the matrix. Allow the GIC to fully set

-
Remove the matrix. There will be minimal excess, which can be removed with curette / sickle scaler. The excess over the little hole in the matrix can be carved with a flat plastic instrument. Glaze the GIC
