Cvek Pulpotomy Study
Study by Cvek et al. found that partial pulpotomy is highly successful for traumatically exposed pulps, with success rates above 95%, regardless of exposure size or time.
Table: Size of Exposure and Outcomes
| Size of the exposure (mm) | 1–8 | 9–30 | 31–100 | 101–2160 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5–1.0 | 25* | 22 | 3 | — | 60 |
| 1.1–2.0 | 21 | 10*** | 5 | — | 40 |
| 2.1–3.0 | 8 | 6 | 1 | — | 16 |
| 3.1–4.0 | 5 | 1 | 2 | — | 9 |
| Total | 63 | 39 | 14 | 9 | 125 |
| Immature | 32 | 8 | 6 | — | 55 |
| Mature | 31 | 27 | 8 | 9 | 67 |
Key Results
- 125 teeth, 6 failures — 95.2% success
- Success not related to time of exposure (1 hour to 90 days)
- Success not related to size of exposure (0.5–4.0 mm)
Conclusion
Factors other than exposure size and time are more critical to healing. Partial pulpotomy is a highly predictable and successful procedure for traumatically exposed pulps.
