Planes of reduction for the mandibular molar
Contents
Burr used for occlusal reduction is a 1 mm bur (round)
- the purpose of using only a 1 mm burr when you need 1.5 -2 mm of clearance is so that you can reduce, then slowly but surely finish and get it to the right clearance

Steps:
B- Plane
- Start by reducing 1 aspect of the mesiobuccal cusp on the b-plane

- *Utilize the burr as a cutting and measuring tool simulatenously *
- tip the cusp about 35 degrees to the horizontal (the steepness of the incline to the triangular ridges)
- this helps to try and reduce the ridges uniformly
A- plane Functional cusp bevel

- this helps to parallel the opposing inclines
Polishing

Use the flame burr to round off all sharp edges
